Motorised roman blinds

Blind Technique has the option to motorise Roman Blinds which gives our customers a further choice of control. We generally use Somfy motors to which can be either hard wired or battery operated. These high quality motors can be set up as as part of your home automation too, please ask one of our sales advisors for more information.

  • Can Roman Blinds blackout all light?

    Pop your Roman blind up outside of the window recess and yes, it will act as a better dimout blind than fitting inside the recess, removing most of the light from outside. Is the wall completely flat? No strange bumps in the plaster to push the blind out? Any Roman blind or curtain installed outside of your window recess should prevent most of the light from sneaking through. Ensure you pick a blackout lining (if you can see your hand through it, it’s not a blackout fabric). To achieve a greater dimout effect, you may find you need to layer your window dressings, using blackout materials, in which case a Roman blind naturally adds opulence and cosiness to this style of window dressing.

  • How do I operate a Roman blind?

    Manually, Roman window blinds are operated by a cord (which must meet child safety regulations). And you can always have them motorised and operated by remote control or by your home hub, for ultimate convenience.

  • How long do Roman blinds last?

    Your beautiful Roman blinds can last up to 15 years, a long time if you look after them properly. You will probably want a change of fabric, colour or style as you redecorate before the fabric fails. The mechanism can need replacing slightly earlier than this, depending on use.

  • How do I maintain my Roman blinds?

    Just flick a duster over them, or a quick go-over with the vacuum cleaner will keep your Roman blind clean. They can be dust catchers with those stylish folds. And you don’t want to get them wet. If they’re folded when wet, mould could develop. This is only likely to happen if you have Romans in hot warm rooms like a bathroom or kitchen. There are more practical blinds for those rooms.
